Translated Slugs: The Small SEO Edge Nobody Implements

Multilingual SEOTranslated Slugs: TheSmall SEO Edge NobodyImplementstransxlate.com

Most multilingual sites translate everything except the URL itself. Slug translation is the finishing touch that separates localized sites from translated ones.

The honest value assessment

Google reads /fr/chaussures-de-course/ slightly more favorably than /fr/running-shoes/ — but the searcher reads it much more favorably in the results list. URL language is a trust signal at the moment of click decision, which is why the CTR effect usually exceeds the ranking effect.

Implementation without tears

Translate slugs at launch time when no rankings exist yet — free win. On established pages, batch by section, 301 every old path (migration guide), update internal links, and expect a few weeks of settling. Never bulk-change slugs site-wide in one afternoon.

Character notes

Non-Latin scripts work in URLs (encoded) but display unevenly across apps; many CJK/Arabic sites prefer transliterated or English slugs deliberately. That’s a valid choice — consistency matters more than ideology. Slug translation ships in Transxlate Pro’s SEO pack: details.
